The Fast-5 Diet and the Fast-5 Lifestyle

The Fast-5 Diet and the Fast-5 Lifestyle is a book about integrating intermittent fasting into a daily routine that gets appetite working like it should — reducing intake if you have excess fat and maintaining a healthy weight if you don’t. The Fast-5 rule is simple — eat within five consecutive hours. The book is about how to get started, what to expect, and how to deal with the challenges of eating in a way that’s not the social norm, but saves time, saves money, and is one of the most easily sustained choices for getting to and maintaining a healthy weight.

There’s a lot of hub bub right now about fasting with Dr. Mosley’s book etc, but the reality is fasting is not new. The longest lived cultures in the world that I know of, the Hunza people of Pakistan, they fast for 30 days every year, and they live into the 150s. So this is not a new concept. I knew this but never really took it seriously in my life, as I’ve done juice fasts here and there. I exercise, I’m not horribly overweight, maybe 10lbs to my comfort but my BMI is normal. I just want to fit back into size 8 pants. After the PBS special came about here in the states recent per Dr. Mosley, a family member found this type of fasting lifestyle instead (as i hate to use the word diet as you aren’t really restricting what you eat when you eat), verses the 5:2 and decided to take this route instead (where you fast for 19 hours a day) which I think both are viable depending on what you can work into. This approach, I think, will get you the most results and faster. It only took me a few days to rev up for it, slowly doing more calorie restriction, then skipping dinner, very light breakfast to then no breakfast as my times are 12-5, which works for me and my schedule. I’ve already dropped about 5 lbs, probably some water weight and just not having your intestines full of …. etc. I feel so much better its off the charts. I’m lighter on so many levels, I can run faster when I exercise. My results were pretty dramatic in only less than a week, however I consider myself a fit person, I was just eating too much even though I felt I didn’t eat bad or a ton, but I didn’t need it. After just delving into this concept I realize Americans are eating too much in general and also eating themselves to death for some. I believe fasting in some way is the key to longevity, and decrease your chances if not avoid, autoimmune disease, alzheimer’s disease and many other things. I want to add I was one of those people who felt I was “hypoglycemic” where I’d get bitchy or irritable when hungry and I realized, and especially reading this book that it is a mental thing, a limbic hunger thing and you are fine and get past it, the hunger goes away and you are never famished when it is time to eat, at least that was my experience. Food almost is like an addiction like anything else that is shoved in our face constantly. Good luck on your journey.

This is a short book but the necessary information is there and I appreciate no having to wade through “filler”. I have been 18:6 IF for a few months but have been told that 19:5 would be more beneficial for weight loss so I wanted to learn more. I think I will give it a try.

This was a quick read and very informative. I read it and started the next day. I’m beginning my third week and feeling great! I’m anxious to see how it goes over time. I’ll repost after a full month. I hope to lose weight. 🙂
